TEHRAN, Sept. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- Hundreds of university students on Wednesday staged protest
against the European Union's stance on Iran's nuclear case in front
of the British Embassy in Tehran, with some conflicting with police at the
scene.
The students, chanting slogans and holding placards, condem neda resolution on
the Iranian nuclear issue adopted by the International Atomic Energy Agency
(IAEA) on Saturday, a witnesstold Xinhua.
They voiced their support for the government's steadfastness onthe nuclear
issue, the witness said.
However, some of the students went extreme by throwing stone atthe embassy and
trying to break into the embassy, and they conflicted with police, the
witness said, adding police used teargas and batons to disperse the irritated
students.
The IAEA resolution, drafted by the EU, accused Iran ofbreaching international
nuclear safeguards and having suspiciousnuclear activities and urged
Tehran to fully suspend all of itsactivities related to uranium enrichment,
warning a defiance might lead to the referral of Iran's case to the
UN Security Council.
Iran rejected the resolution as illegal and unacceptable,urging the IAEA and the
EU to "correct" it and threatening tocancel all its voluntary and temporary concessions,
including the implementation of the Additional Protocol of the
Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Earlier in the day, the Iranian parliament approved a motion tobegin discussions
on a plan aimed at pressing the government to cease the
implementation of the NPT Additional Protocol. Enditem |
