WASHINGTON, Sept. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is due to visit Haiti on Tuesday to offer US support for the Caribbean country's upcoming elections, State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said on Monday.
Rice would confer with Haiti's interim government leaders and representatives of the United Nations Stabilization Mission In Haiti (MINUSTAH) during her day trip, McCormack said in a statement.
"Her visit will underscore US support for Haiti's upcoming elections and its ongoing process of political and economic reform," McCormack said.
Haiti is due to hold its first presidential and legislative elections on November 20 since the ouster of president Jean Bertrand Aristide in February 2004. Enditem |
