HAIKOU, Sept. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- Typhoon Damrey will leave China's southernmost island province of Hainan to reach the mainland Monday night, according to the provincial observatory.
Damrey, the strongest typhoon hitting south China region in 10 years, has swept Hainan from the east to west since early Monday morning. It is still gathering strength as it is leaving Hainan to affect the south China region through the Beibu Bay.
The Hainan Provincial Meteorological Station said that downpours would continue in most areas on the island in the evening and gradually abate in Tuesday morning.
Damrey left Hainan with more than 170 mm of precipitation. Most of the residents have been earlier evacuated away from dangerous regions. No casualties have been reported. Enditem |
