US dismisses Saudi view of Iraq's possible disintegration

WASHINGTON, Sept. 23 (Xinhuanet) -- The United States dismissed on Friday the view of Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal who said that Iraq was heading toward disintegration.

"All I would say is that we see a situation in Iraq in which the Iraqi people at every opportunity have chosen to pull together in the political process," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said at a briefing.

McCormack also urged Iraq's neighbors to be more supportive of Iraq's political process.

"We have encouraged, I think, all of Iraq's neighbors to support Iraq politically and diplomatically and in whatever way that they can," he said.

McCormack made the remarks after Saud al-Faisal said on Thursday that Iraq was heading toward disintegration and he feared other countries in the region would be drawn into the conflict. Enditem
