BAGHDAD, Sept. 22 (Xinhuanet) -- The governing
council of the Iraqi southern city of Basra said on Thursday that it would end
cooperation with British forces unless their government apologizes for the raid
on its police facility.
Mohammed al-Waili, governor of Basra, told reporters that the city council decided to end all kinds of cooperation
with the British forces unless Prime Minister Tony Blair's government apologized
for the attack of its forces on a police detention.
Two other demands included British compensation for the
damage caused by its troops and the government promised not to repeat such
incidents, added al-Waili.
Late on Monday, the British troops stormed a police
detention in Basra and released two British soldiers detained by Iraqi police
for firing on the police station. Enditem |
