(Xinhua/AFP photo) | KIEV, Sept. 22 (Xinhuanet) -- Ukraine's President Viktor Yushchenko on Thursday won the necessary parliamentary approval to name Yury Yekhanurov as the country's new prime minister on the second try.
Yekhanurov, a middle-of-the-road technocrat and a long-time loyalist of the president, won the support of 289 members of the 450-seat assembly, far more than the required majority of 226.
On Tuesday, he fell short by three votes.
He replaces Yulia Tymoshenko who was fired in early September after months of infighting.
Yushchenko has said Tymoshenko's cabinet was too divided to continue work. Enditem |
