M5.9 quake rocks northern Japan

    TOKYO, Sept. 21 (Xinhuanet) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.9 jolted Japan's northern Hokkaido province Wednesday morning, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

    There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage from the 11:25 a.m. (0225 GMT) quake. No tsunami warnings were issued.

    The quake registered four on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of seven in some areas, the agency said. Enditem
