Palestinian PM says ready to resign over chaos
www.chinaview.cn 2005-09-20 21:56:06

RAMALLAH, Sept. 20 (Xinhuanet) -- Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei said on Tuesday that he was ready to resign over the growing chaos in the Palestinian territories.

Qurei said he was ready to accept any decision by the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC), which is scheduled to hold a no-confidence vote against Qurei's cabinet next Monday.

"I take full responsibility for the deteriorating security situation in the Palestinian territories and I am ready to comply with PLC's decision no matter whether it is a confidence or no-confidence vote," he told a news conference here.

However, Qurei added Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas as well as heads of the Palestinian security forces and the militant groups should also be held responsible for the prevailing chaos.

Sixteen parliament members, who came from the mainstream Fatah movement, have called for a special PLC session next Monday for the no-confidence vote.

The security situation in the Palestinian territories have been declining since the beginning of the year with frequent kidnappings, assassinations and gang crimes. Enditem
