NEW DELHI, Sept. 18 (Xinhuanet) -- An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale shook the northeastern region of India on Sunday,causing panic in the states of Assam, Manipur and Meghalaya, officials said.
An official with the seismological center in Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, said the epicenter of the quake, which occurred at 12.56 p.m. local time, was plotted along the border between Manipur and Myanmar, according to a report of Indo-Asian News Service.
Police and residents in the region said people panicked and rushed out of their homes.
There were no reports of damage or casualties so far, officials said. Enditem
