Chelsea keep winning streak by beating Charlton

LONDON, Sept 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Chelsea marched on relentlessly at the Premiership summit after beating second-placed Charlton Athletic 2-0 on Saturday at The Valley.

After a goalless first half, Hernan Crespo headed the visitors in front and Arjen Robben made sure of the points soon afterwards with a curling effort.

Jose Mourinho's side have set a new record for not conceding a goal at the start of a Premiership season and are six points clearof the field already.

Sunderland picked up their first point of the season after fivestraight defeats with a 1-1 draw against West Brom.

In a scrappy match, Gary Breen's powerful seventh minute headerhad proved to be the difference between the two sides with Baggiesfull back Paul Robinson attempting to keep the goal out with his hand.

However, in injury time, after Justin Hoyte had headed off his own line, Zoltan Gera was allowed to climb and plant a header pastKelvin Davis from the resulting corner.

West Ham continue to impress at Premiership level, with Marlon Harewood inspiring a 2-1 away triumph at London rivals Fulham.

Harewood, who hit a hat-trick against Aston Villa on Monday, skipped through to open the scoring at the start of the second half by clipping the ball over Tony Warner. The Fulham keeper willbe debited with an own goal for the second effort as Harewood's shot came back off an upright and struck Warner before finding thenet.

Fulham captain Luis Boa Morte pulled one back with a stunning drive from the edge of the area but The Hammers held out for a fine victory.

Portsmouth and Birmingham City shared the spoils after a 1-1 draw at Fratton Park with both goals coming inside the first six minutes.

Tresor Lomana Lua-Lua converted Laurent Robert's corner but Jiri Jarosik restored parity with a firm header from Jermaine Pennant's free kick.

Nicky Butt was sent off in the first half, much to Steve Bruce's chagrin, for kicking out at Dario Silva after the pair clashed whilst Robert prepared to take a set-piece for Pompey. Enditem
