SINGAPORE, Sept. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said on Saturday that the city state takes multi-racial and multi-religious harmony seriously and the government will take action against anyone who makes racist remarks, according to a Channel NewsAsia report.

    "This is the message, it is not acceptable. It is against the law, and the Sedition Act specifically puts it down that you are creating distrust and animosity between the races, and we will actaccording to the law," Lee was quoted as saying at a Family Day Carnival.

    He said that it is necessary to educate young people about the importance of multi-racialism in the country as it is the basis for Singapore to hold together as a nation.

    Three Singaporeans, one teenager and two in their 20s, were charged with making racist remarks on their respective blog sites during the past week, which was the first of its kind in Singapore.

    Under the Sedition Act, any act which promotes feelings of ill-will and hostility between different races of the population of Singapore is defined as having a seditious tendency.

    It is also an offense to utter any seditious words or to print,publish, sell, distribute, reproduce or import any seditious publication. Enditem
