    JAKARTA, Sept. 13 (Xinhuanet) -- The Indonesian court on Tuesday sentenced a militant to death for playing a major role in the last year's bomb attack on the Australian embassy compound here that killed 11 people and injured some 200 others.

    Iwan Darmawan alias Rois, 29, was found guilty of plotting the attack, recruiting a suicide bomber, preparing the explosives, surveying the target, providing a van to carry the explosives and finding shelters to other bombers.

    The defendant was pronounced "convincingly guilty of cumulative crimes," presiding judge Roki Panjaitan said.

    The defendant has shown consistent denials and no remorse during his trials, said Roki, adding "there are no mitigating factors."

    Rois is the fourth convicted terrorist to face the firing squad after three convicted terrorists in the October 2002 nightclub bombing on Bali island.

    "I'm not afraid of death sentence because I will die as a martyr," Rois said.

    His lawyer Ahmad Michdan told reporters that the case was markedly under foreign influence.

    Besides Rois, the South Jakarta District Court has convicted three other suspects for the Australian embassy bombing and sentenced them to between three-and-a-half and seven years in jail.

    Two more defendants are awaiting verdicts from the court. Enditem
