Law enforcers urged to standardize practice
www.chinaview.cn 2005-09-13 21:29:51

BEIJING, Sept. 13 (Xinhuanet) -- A senior official has urged the country's law enforcement forces to strictly regulate their activities, so as to improve the level of law enforcement and promote social harmony and stability.

Luo Gan, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, make this remark at Tuesday's national conference on conduct of law enforcement here.

In April, the Political and Legislative Committee of the CPC Central Committee launched a special campaign to regulate law enforcement conduct and promote just enforcement. This campaign has achieved initial successes, said Luo, who is also the secretary of the Committee.

The campaign has helped resolve some protruding problems in law enforcement activities, resulting from promulgating a series of effective regulations to deal with these problems, according to the official.

Luo said that irregularities by law-enforcers have been detrimental to the image of the country's law-enforcement departments. Law enforcers have to be trained to meet the demands of these new regulations, he said.

The meeting was presided over by Zhou Yongkong, member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau and minister of public security.

Also present were Xiao Yang, president of the Supreme People's Court, and Jia Chunwang, procurator-general of the Supreme People's Procuratorate. Enditem
