| Armed police yesterday search for survivors amid the debris of houses in Qinglin Village, which was hit by floods triggered by Typhoon Khanun, in Ningbo, a city in East China's Zhejiang Province. The flood broke out at about 1:00 am yesterday in the village and pulled down more than 20 houses. Khanun slammed into Zhejiang on Sunday afternoon. ([newsphoto) | HANGZHOU, Sept. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- The death toll inflicted by typhoon Khanun has risen to 14 in east China's Zhejiang Province and nine others are reported missing, according to the latest statistics from the provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters Monday evening.
Khanun, the No. 15 typhoon of this year, slammed into Taizhou city of Zhejiang province at 14:50 p.m. Sunday, causing flooding and landslides.
The typhoon destroyed large areas of crops, and industry and infrastructure facilities. Three weather stations of the province had recorded more than 400 millimeters of rainfall.
According to the latest statistics, the typhoon has affected 7.056 million people in 56 counties of 10 cities, flattened 19,332houses and caused 7.95 billion yuan (993.8 million US dollars) of direct losses in Zhejiang.
Khanun is the fourth typhoon affecting Zhejiang this summer, just after Typhoon Talim which left 14 people dead and caused 3.42billion yuan (421.7 million US dollars) in economic losses in the province. Enditem |
