KABUL, Sept. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- While Afghans are just six days away from the key parliamentary elections, the Election Complaint Commission Monday announced the disqualification of 28 candidates Monday.

"At this time the Election Complaint Commission (ECC) is announcing the disqualification of 28 candidates, 21 of them belong to illegal armed groups," ECC chairman Grant Kippen told journalists at a press conference.

The remaining seven others, he added, were those government employees who failed to resign from his post or meet the criteria.

Among the disqualified candidates are a number of prominent warlords including Bashir Baghlani, commander Didar and General Mustafa, who have been accused of involvement in military activities and rights violations over the past two decades of war.

He also hinted that some more candidates will be disqualified in the coming days ahead of the elections but declined to name.

Asked if the disqualified candidates can challenge their disqualification, he replied, "Our decision is the final one."

More than 12 million Afghans are going to elect their representatives at parliament and provincial councils amid tight security on Sept. 18. Enditem
