ABC News gets tape of terror threats
www.chinaview.cn 2005-09-12 02:01:21

WASHINGTON, Sept. 11 (Xinhuanet) -- The US TV network ABC said Sunday that it received a video tape containing threats to attack the United States and Australia, just as the United States marks the 4th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

The tape was mailed to ABC from Pakistan, although US authorities have not found any specific signs of a possible attack.

ABC said in its programs this morning they believed a masked man who made warnings in the 11-minute tape is a US al Qaeda suspect named Adam Yahiye Gadahn.

"Yesterday, (attacks on ) London and Madrid. Tomorrow, Los Angeles and Melbourne, Allah willing. And this time, don't count on us demonstrating restraint and compassion," the man said in thetape.

He also calls the attacks of four years ago "blessed events" and claimed "we love nothing better than the heat of battle, the echo of explosions, and slitting the throats of the infidels."

Gadahn, who is on the FBI's list of the wanted, grew up in California before he converted to Islam and moved to Pakistan.

He later became a member of al Qaeda training camps and served as a translator.

In Los Angeles, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Police Chief William Bratton said later in the day that they have already discussed the tape with security officials in Washington, but authorities have not verified any credible threat to their city.

Meanwhile, Pakistani Interior Minister Aftab Khan Sherpao said his government will inquire into this matter.

But he refused to confirm that Gadahn is currently hiding in Pakistan. Enditem
