KATHMANDU, Sept. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- The anti-government guerrillas have
abducted more than 100 students from various schools in western Nepal, local
police office said Saturday.
The students were forcibly taken away from a dozen schools including Janapriya Secondary
School, Kissani Secondary School, and Rastriya Secondary School, among
others in Magi district, some 400 km west of Kathmandu, on Thursday,
local police office said in a statement.
All the students were taken to undisclosed location, the statement noted.
The guerrillas often force the civilians, teachers and students to take part in
their "ideological" programs and usually free them after a few days unharmed.
Over 12,000 Nepalese people have been killed since the anti-government
insurgency took place in the Himalayan kingdom in February 1996.
The guerrillas' leader Prachanda has announced a three-month unilateral ceasefire with immediate effect from Sept. 3. Enditem |
