BEIJING, Sept. 10 -- Survivors, victims' families and area residents will lead walking tours of the World Trade Center site in New York.
The tours are being put together by the Tribute Center, a project of the September 11th Widows and Victims' Families' Association.
The tours were announced at a news conference on Friday in New York, with elected officials including Governor George Pataki, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.
Guiliani spoke at the conference.
"The Tribute Center is absolutely the appropriate way to deal with this site, it's at the core of what has to be done here, because future generations are going to judge us by how well we do this." Guiliani said.
Currently under construction at 120 Liberty St., just south of the fallen towers, the center will host exhibitions and programs when it officially opens next spring.
Tours will be offered on weekends starting next month, with an official launch in November.
Survivors say they hope to share their stories and make the events of 9/11 even more real to the throngs of visitors who come every day to stare through the fencing at the empty site and read the memorial plaques.
