JAKARTA, Sept. 9 (Xinhuanet) -- Former Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid
led a rally against the government here in coincidence with President Susilo
Bambang Yudhoyono's 56th birthday on Friday.
Wahid, whose short-lived presidency was ended by a parliament impeachment
in July 2001, marched to the Susilo's office on his wheelchair along with some
500 people, chanting anti-government slogans.
They carried banners that read "SBY-JK tell lies," referring to Susilo and
his deputy Jusuf Kalla by initials.
The current government has been facing the sternest test in the fragile economy
under pressures from rupiah's continued losses and soaring global oil
prices.
The government has earlier hinted at imposing the second hike on politically sensitive fuel prices late this year, a move that may trigger major opposition among the poor. Enditem |
