GAZA, Sept. 8 (Xinhuanet) -- Palestinian militants released Menhal Arafat, son of General Musa Arafat, Thursday night following efforts by a high-ranking Egyptian security delegation, Palestinian security sources said.
About 100 militants stormed Musa Arafat's house in Gaza City at pre-dawn Wednesday, killing the general, former chief of military intelligence, and abducting his son.
The Egyptian delegation, which has been staying in Gaza City for several weeks, held talks with the abductors and finally managed to convince them to release the son, said the sources.
A group calling itself the Popular Resistance Committee claimed responsibility for murdering Musa Arafat and abducting his son, but later retreated from the claim.
The security sources said the Egyptian delegation reached an agreement with the kidnappers, and the Fatah movement's Secretary General in Gaza Ahmed Helles, known as Abu Maher, headed to a place, where the kidnappers and Menhal were, and the abductors handed over Menhal to Maher.
Menhal's mother Om Menhal refused to bury her husband till the release of her son. Enditem |
