1 killed, over 50 injured in Sri Lanka airport bomb scare

    COLOMBO, Sept. 8 (Xinhuanet) -- Sri Lankan airport officials said Thursday a woman was killed and around 50 people received minor injuries as result of a bomb scare. They were taken to the nearby Negombo hospital for treatment.

    The country's only international airport was put on an alert asa bomb scare was reported on an airliner leaving the airport, officials said.

    The airport authorities had received a phone call saying a bombhad been placed on the Saudi Airways Boeing 747 which was about to take off at 1:50 p.m. for Riyadh.

    Officials said the passengers had jumped out of the plane when the evacuation process was underway.

    An airport official said that the bomb scare was a hoax and further search operations were still underway. The flight remains grounded he added. Enditem
