www.chinaview.cn 2005-09-08 07:51:48

Governor of New York State George E. Pataki delivers a speech at the launching ceremony of the construction of the new World Trade Center (WTC) transportation hub in New York Sept. 6. With the fourth anniversary of the Sept.11 terror attacks only days away, the rebuilding of Lower Manhattan took another step forward Tuesday with the ground-breaking of a new World Trade Center (WTC) transportation hub. The release of two doves representing the birdlike design by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava symbolized the launching of the 2.2-billion-dollar project at the WTC site. US Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the governors and all four senators from the states of New York and New Jersey joined Calatrava to mark the beginning of construction of the hub that will serve more than 80,000 commuters daily between downtown Manhattan and New Jersey.
