BAGHDAD, Sept. 7 (Xinhuanet) -- A car bomb struck a
convoy of four-wheel drive vehicles usually used by foreign contractors in
Baghdad on Wednesday, destroying one of the vehicles, wounding an occupant and
five Iraqi civilians, police said.
"A car parked on
the side of a road in Baghdad's Karada district near a gas station detonated at
about 9:00 a.m. (0500 GMT) as a convoy of sport utility vehicles (SUV) was
passing by, destroying one of the vehicles," police officer Captain Ahmed
Abdullah told Xinhua.
"One of the SUV's occupants,
whose nationality was not known, was wounded in the blast along with five Iraqi
civilians," Abdullah said.
The US troops cordoned off
the area, preventing people and Iraqi police from approaching the scene,
according to Abdullah, who said the US soldiers immediately evacuated the
wounded people who looked apparently a foreigner from the car.
Three civilian cars were damaged by the blast along
with several shops and nearby houses, he added. Enditem |
