Japan's wars of aggression negative: Ikuo Hirayama
www.chinaview.cn 2005-09-07 14:11:15

BEIJING, Sept. 7 -- Ikuo Hirayama, president of the Japan-China Friendship Association, said Japan's wars of aggressions in the 20th century all had terrible consequences.

He made the remarks on Tuesday while visiting the Memorial Hall of the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre in Nanjing, eastern Chinese Province of Jiangsu.

On December 13, 1937, invading Japanese troops occupied the then Chinese capital city of Nanjing, and launched a six-week long massacre. Historical records show that more than 300,000 Chinese people, both disarmed soldiers and civilians, were slain in the outrage.

But Japanese right-wing forces have, in recent years, tried denying that such historical tragedies ever occured in a bid to distort their history of aggression.

Ikuo Hirayama said japan's invasion brought huge sufferings to the Chinese people and especially Nanjing residents.

He noted historical truth must be passed on to the future generations to prevent the tragedies from being restaged and to sustain the everlasting friendship between the Chinese people and Japanese people.
