Typhoon Nabi kills 9 in Japan

    TOKYO, Sept. 7 (Xinhuanet) -- A monstrous typhoon that made landfall Tuesday on southern Japan has killed 9 people and left 14 missing as of early Wednesday.

    The Typhoon No. 14, dubbed Nabi, swept through Japan's Kyushu region and parts of the Chugoku and Shikoku regions late Tuesday, and was moving northeast in the Sea of Japan. The Japan Meteorological Agency said the typhoon may approach Japan's northern main island of Hokkaido nearly Thursday morning.

    The local governments in affected regions have issued evacuation advice involving more than 300,000 residents.

    Strong winds and pouring rains have grounded nearly 900 flights.The Japan Railway group said all train services were halted on Kyushu and Shikoku as of Tuesday evening. Enditem
