MEDAN, Indonesia, Sept. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- The Indonesian authorities on Tuesday began to dig a large grave near the Polonia Airport in the city of Medan to bury unidentified bodies of victims in the Monday's air crash that killed 150 people.
Three excavators and a bulldozer have been sent to make the mass grave measuring 450 square meters.
Minister of Transportation Hatta Radjasa told reporters in the North Sumatra capital the procession of the mass burial will be held Wednesday afternoon to give a chance for the forensic team to identify more bodies.
The forensic team has identified 88 of 139 bodies at the Adam Malik Hospital so far. Other remains have been taken back by relatives for funeral.
The new grave is located next to a similar grave for the victims of the September 1997 disaster, in which an Airbus A-300B4 crashed into a mountain in North Sumatra and killed all 222 passengers and 12 crew. Enditem |
