TOKYO, Sept. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- Typhoon Nabi is expected to land on Japan's southern
provinces Tuesday afternoon, prompting evacuation advice to tens of
thousands of residents.
The Japan Meteorological Agency has alarmed the residents in Kyushu and the
Shikoku and Chugoku regions in southern Japan that the large scale and slow
speed of the gale would bring longer strong winds and heavy rain.
In Okayama Prefecture, a 37-year-old woman was found dead after falling from
the deck of a ferry into waters early Tuesday when strong wind shook the vessel
just before it arrived at the port, Kyodo News reported.
In addition, four other people were missing in the storm, and 15 got
injured, the report said.
A total of about 110,000 residents have been told to evacuate.
The year's 14th typhoon disrupted air, land and sea transport services. Airlines canceled more than 530 flights, mostly to or from Kyushu. Japan Railway group companies suspended all train services in Kyushu and some bullet train and local train services in western Japan. Ferry services to and from the Kyushu area were also canceled Tuesday. Enditem |
