At least 40 killed in huge fire south of Cairo
www.chinaview.cn 2005-09-06 09:00:32

CAIRO, Sept. 5 (Xinhuanet) -- At least 40 people were killed and dozens injured in a huge fire engulfing a theater in Beni Suef, about 100 km south of Cairo, Monday night, the al-Jazeera TV channel reported.

About 1,000 people were crowded in the theater, and the death toll might rise because the blaze sparked panic in the audience and they made their ways to flee the fire.

The cause of the fire, which lasted for about two hours from 10:45 p.m. (1945 GMT), was not immediately clear.

The fire was brought under control. Enditem
