MOSCOW, Sept. 5 (Xinhuanet) -- A Russian Su-33 fighter belonging to the North Fleet crashed into the sea during maneuvers in the North Atlantic region on Monday, but no casualty was reported, theInterfax news agency quoted a navy spokesman as saying.

"An accident occurred aboard the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov in the course of routine missions at 16:27 Moscow time (1227GMT) on Sept. 5. The pilot ejected himself from the aircraft,"Captain Igor Dygalo said.

The pilot is alive and in good condition well, but the plane slid off the vessel's flight deck and fell into the bottom of the sea, Dygalo said.

When the accident occurred, the brake cable tore off, and the "plane rolled several meters along the deck and fell overboard. It sank to a depth of 1,100 meters," he added.

Five minutes later, a Ka-27PS helicopter took off from the aircraft carrier's deck and airlifted the pilot "back to the ship," the spokesman said.

There were no weapons or ammunition aboard the sunken plane, Dygalo said. Enditem
