BRUSSELS, Sept. 4 (Xinhuanet) -- The United States asked the NorthAtlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) on Sunday to provide more assistance apart from earlier request for food supplies, the NATO headquarters announced here on Sunday night.

"Following up on the earlier request for food supplies, the United States Government has now provided to NATO a longer list ofrequirements for support. This list includes medical and logistical supplies," said NATO spokesman James Appathurai said ina written statement.

NATO's Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Center has provided this list to Allies and partners and will help to co-ordinate the response, said the NATO headquarters.

Earlier on the day, the NATO headquarters announced that it wasto provide food supplies to the United States over hurricane disaster after the US government made a request for relief support"in the form of food supplies".

The NATO headquarters said a NATO liaison officer had also been dispatched to Washington to work with the US authorities, in particular the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Earlier last week, NATO secretary-general Jaap de Hoop Scheffersaid the bloc would do anything it can to help the United States if the latter requests. Enditem
