HEFEI, Sept. 4 (Xinhuanet) -- Landslides and mud-and-rock flow caused by rainstorms over the past two days left 19 people dead in Yuexi County of east China's Anhui Province, local government said on Sunday.

The disasters affected 210,000 people, flattened more than 10,000 houses in Yuexi County, cut off local traffic and damaged water and electricity supply facilities and telecommunications services as well as more than 12,300 hectares of cropland, causing an economic loss of 250 million yuan (about 30 million US dollars), according to the county's civil affairs department.

The county government and the county headquarters for flood control and drought relief sent 50 emergency assistance teams to help relocate people in disaster-affected areas. They have evacuated more than 30,000 people and rescued over 200 others stranded by floodwater.

Efforts are being made to repair damaged highways, restore water and electricity supply and telecommunications services in the county and relief materials are on the way to disaster-affected areas, according to the county government of Yuexi. Enditem
