BEIJING, Sep. 3 (Xinhuanet)-- The al Qaeda
videotape, aired on the Arabic channel Al-Jazeera on Thursday, may be
genuine, said CIA spokesman Paul Gimigliano on Friday.
It is because that the two speakers are who they claim to
be, according to the report of CNN.
The tape includes statements by the terror group's No. 2
man, Ayman al-Zawahiri, and by a man Al-Jazeera called one of the July 7 London
suicide bombers, Mohammed Sidique Khan.
While the tape suggests there is some type of connection
between al Qaeda and those who carried out the London bombings, it is not
"definitive" proof that the leadership of the terror organization planned the
attacks, Intelligence officials said.
The analysis will also be carried out by members of
Scotland Yard's anti-terrorist branch and the Special Branch, MI5 and experts
from GCHQ. Details will be passed on to the US and allied security agencies.
"We're looking at the tape, and it will form part of our
investigation," a spokesman for London's Metropolitan Police, which is leading
the investigation into the July 7 bombings, was quoted as saying by CNN.
On the videotape, the man identified as Khan says in
a Yorkshire accent: "I'm sure by now the media has painted a suitable picture of
me. Its predictable propaganda machine, naturally, will try to put a spin on
things to suit the government and to scare the masses and to conform to their
power and wealth-obsessed agendas.
"I and thousands like me have forsaken everything for what
we believe. Our driving motivation doesn't come from tangible commodities that
this world has to offer. Our religion is Islam, obedience to the one true god,
Allah, and follow in the footsteps of the final prophet and messenger,
Mohammed." he says.
The one sure thing the film appears to show is that Khan
and his accomplices were not "duped" into carrying out the attacks, as had been
suggested, but had set out to kill themselves and fellow residents of the UK,
said UK's Independent. Enditem
