ISLAMABAD, Sept. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said Friday that his country had not made any decision to recognize Israel and the meeting of Pakistani and Israeli foreign ministers in Turkey in no way meant recognition of Israel.

    Speaking at the National Assembly, Aziz made it clear that any decision in this regard would be taken in supreme national interests after due consultation of the Parliament.

    Pakistan's foreign policy totally moved around the national interests and the government would never make compromise on national interests, Aziz stressed.

    He explained that Pakistan was only playing a role on the request of Palestinian president to move forward for the settlement of the Palestinian issue through political means.

    He informed the House that during the meeting with his Israeli counterpart Silvan Shalom, Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri reiterated Pakistan's principled stand on the Palestinian issue and once again demanded complete withdrawal of Israeli forces fromthe occupied Palestinian territories.

    Aziz said that Pakistan took into confidence the friendly countries, particularly King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Palestinian President Mehmood Abbas before going into meeting withIsrael.

    President General Pervez Musharraf Thursday categorically clarified that Israel could not be recognized till the resolution of the Palestinian issue in consonance with the aspirations of the Palestinian people and establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

    The meeting between Kasuri and Shalom on Thursday in Istanbul has been the first-ever contact between the two countries at the ministerial level in over 50 years. Enditem
