SEOUL, Sept. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- Fire engulfed through a
five-floor building of in South Korean third largest city of Daegu on Friday
afternoon, killing four people and injuring 43 others, reported South Korean
major news agency Yonhap.
Another two were reportedly missing in the fire
accident which caused by powerful explosion at a public bathhouse around 4
p.m.(0700 GMT) in the building in the eastern part of the city, Yonhap quoted
local police officers as saying.
Daegu is about 350 kilometers southeast of Seoul.
The body of a man was recovered from the gate of the
parking lot on the first floor and the bodies of three women were found at a
beauty parlor on the same floor of the building, said Yonhap.
The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals and some
were in critical condition.
However, more people may still be trapped in the
building, for it was not known exactly how many people in the building when the
accident happened.
The cause of the blast was still under investigation.
Local police, however, said the use of substandard
oil in the boiler of the bathhouse may have been the reason for the blast and
that an oil sample will be examined.
More than 400 firefighters and 30 fire engines were
rushed to the scene to battle the blaze, which was brought under control about
two hours later, Yonhap said.
The blast also destroyed some 20 cars parked close to
the building, shattered the windows of nearby stores and disrupted traffic on
streets dozens of meters away. Enditem |
