TOKYO, Aug. 31 (Xinhuanet) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of
6.2 hit Iwate, Miyagi and other prefectures in northeastern Japan early
Wednesday, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
The quake only registered 3 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of a maximum
of 7, so that the quake was little felt in most parts of the quake-hit
area, the agency said.
There were no reports so far of casualties or damage from the 3:11 a.m.
(1811 GMT Tuesday) quake.
The quake's focus was in the Pacific off the Sanriku Coast, the agency said. Enditem |
