Jia Qingling visits armed forces in Tibet

LHASA, Aug. 30 (Xinhuanet) -- Jia Qingling, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, visited army, armed police judicial police officers here Tuesday.

    Jia, who heads a central delegation to celebrate the 40th founding anniversary of the Tibet Autonomous Region, brought to the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Tibet Command Area and the Chinese People's Armed Police (PAP) division in Tibet a banner inscribed by Chinese President Hu Jintao, who is concurrently CPC general secretary and chairman of the Central Military Commission.

    Hu writes, "Let's join up to work hard to achieve common prosperity and development."

In his speech, Jia said Tibet is an inseparable part of "our great motherland". He spoke highly of the enormous contributions made by servicemen and police officers in Tibet since 1950, the year Tibet was liberated in a peaceful way.

    He urged the Army and Armed Police to bear the historical duty of protecting and stabilizing Tibet.

    Jia and the central delegation watched an art performance designed for celebrating the 40th founding anniversary of the Tibet Autonomous Region.

    Local artists of different ethnic groups performed dances and songs to show enormous changes and development in Tibet since this autonomous region was established in 1965.   Enditem
