BAGHDAD, Aug. 30 (Xinhuanet) -- An Iraqi Sunni Arab leader pledged Tuesday to bring down the draft constitution in the Oct. 15 referendum, while the US ambassador said the final draft had not been presented.

    "We will do our best to make sure this draft fails at the referendum," Adnan al-Dulaimi said at a joint news conference with the US ambassador to Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad.

    He said the charter did not meet the Iraqi people's aspirations.

    Dulaimi, the secretary general of the Ahel al-Sunna Wal Jamaa Conference, also condemned the Shiite-controlled Interior Ministry for murdering dozens of Sunnis after campaigns of random detaining.

    For his part, Khalilzad said the draft constitution was not the final and that amendments could be made on its text.

    "I believe that a final draft has not been presented yet," he said, "so that's something Iraqis will have to talk to each other and decide for themselves."

    "As I said before, if Iraqis in the assembly and those from outside, decide to make some adjustments to the draft that was presented three four days ago, it's entirely up to them," Khalilzadsaid.

    The joint news conference indicated that US administration was continuing its efforts to win Sunni support for the referendum. Enditem
