KATHMANDU, Aug. 30 (Xinhuanet) -- The anti-government guerrillas abducted at
least 130 civilians from remote villages in mid-western Nepal on Tuesday, local
police office said.
The guerrillas abducted the civilians from Triveni and Korbang Jhimpe villages
in Salyan district, some 400 km west of Kathmandu, and took them to an
unknown place to involve them in their political campaign, local police office
said in a statement.
The abduction was part of the guerrillas "one house one person" policy.
Following the abduction, the villagers have started leaving the village or
hiding themselves, according to the statement.
The guerrillas often force the civilians, teachers and students to take part in
their "ideological" programs and usually free them after a few days unharmed.
Over 12,000 Nepalese people have been killed since the anti-government insurgency took place in the Himalayan kingdom in February 1996. Enditem |
