Palestine rejects Israel's threat to roadmap plan

GAZA, Aug. 30 (Xinhuanet) -- The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) rejected Tuesday Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom's statements, in which he has threatened to reconsider the roadmap plan if bombing attacks continue.

Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat told reporters that such a threat is totally rejected.

The roadmap plan is an international plan that is considered obligatory for both Israel and the Palestinians, Erekat stressed.

He added that Israel does not have the right to assign itself an umpire and negotiator at the same time and to ignore the other sides.

Erekat called on the quartet committee to oblige Israel to implement the roadmap plan envisioning a full Palestinian state by 2005.

The quartet committee groups the United Nations, the United States, the European Union and Russia.

Speaking to Israel Radio, Shalom said he told EU foreign policy chief that if any future suicide bombing attack is carried out, Israel reserves the right to retaliate and this would have international backing.

Shalom also warned of harsh measures in the face of increasing violence after Israel finished the disengagement from the Gaza Strip. Enditem
