KABUL, Aug. 29 (Xinhuanet) -- Unknown assailants fired rocket on the only NATO-led
International Security Assistance (ISAF) base in northeast Badakhshan
province on weekend, spokesman of the multinational force said Monday.
"AT 2248 hours on Saturday 27 August, in northern region city of Feyzabad,
ISAF's Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) received a rocket attack, fired from
across the Kochcew River which landed inside the compound," Andy Elmes disclosed
at a press conference here.
However, he added that the rocket failed to detonate properly and no
civilian or ISAF personnel were injured.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack and no one has been taken
into custody in this regard.
It is the first time that NATO's forward base has been attackedin the
northeast Afghanistan.
PRT, a civilian-military unit is engaged in stabilizing security as well as reconstruction
process in several parts of the post-war nation.
Earlier the NATO-led PRTs at least four times came attacks in the northern
Kunduz and Baghlan provinces over the past two years.
Some 21 PTRs both from NATO-led ISAF and US-dominated coalition forces have been stationed in several parts of Afghanistan over the past three years. Enditem |
