Indonesian president warns against terrorist attacks
www.chinaview.cn 2005-08-29 17:43:43

JAKARTA, Aug. 29 (Xinhuanet) -- Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono here on Monday put the country's security services on alert for more terrorist attacks in Indonesia in the next two months.

Susilo ordered security authorities to begin beefing up surveillance ahead of September and October.

He said that within the next two months there would be an increase of terrorist activities.

"The September and October are special months for the terrorists," he was quoted by the Kompas Cyber Media news service as saying.

What's more, he added, two top leaders of the terrorists in the country, Malaysian citizens Noerdin Mohammand Top and Azhari Husin, were still at large.

Malaysian bomb expert Azhari and his fellow Top, terror coordinator of Jemaah Islamiyah, the Al-Qaida link in Southeast Asia, are the most wanted fugitives. They had been implicated in aseries of major terror acts in the country, including the Bali bombings in 2002, JW Marriot Hotel explosions in Jakarta in 2003 and a deadly blast near the Australian Embassy in Jakarta last year. The three explosions killed over 220, 12 and 11 people, respectively. Enditem
