PNA urges Quartet to intervene in Israeli settlement activities
www.chinaview.cn 2005-08-27 17:29:42

GAZA, Aug. 27 (Xinhuanet) -- The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) urged on Saturday the Mideast Quartet committee to intervene in Israel's settlement activities.

Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said the PNA has sent messages to representatives of the Quartet, including the United Nations, the European Union, the United States and Russia, urging them to press Israel to stop settlement activities in Maeeh Adomim between the West Bank and Jerusalem.

Erekat told Voice of Palestine that the PNA demanded an immediate Quartet interference to force Israel not to carry out its project of building more settlements in Maeeh Adomim.

Erekat also demanded Israel pull back to the borders prior to September 2000 and release the Palestinian prisoners.

Erekat said implementing the roadmap is a mutual operation between Israel and the Palestinians and both sides must start launching the mechanism of implementation.

Erekat's remarks were made after Israel completed its evacuation of all 21 settlements in the Gaza Strip and four in the northern West Bank this week, the first withdrawal of Israel from lands the Palestinians want for a state. Enditem
