Germany issues photos of three wanted men in anti-terror alert

BERLIN, Aug. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- German police in the northern port city of Hamburg on Friday issued photos of three wanted men in a major anti-terror alert.

The three men were overheard saying at a city bus stop earlier this week "We'll stand before Allah as heroes tomorrow."

The black and white photos, taken Wednesday by closed-circuit security television, showed two clean-shaven young men and one wearing thin beard and a beret, according to German news agency DPA.

Police set up a dragnet around Hamburg on Thursday evening to track down the men, searching homes and watching crowds on public transport in response to a major anti-terror alert after last month's bombings in London.

The men's remarks, overheard by an Egyptian and reported to police, were interpreted as a possible hint of a terrorist attack.

Meanwhile, police appealed the men to show themselves up and clarify their remarks.

So far, no specific warning of a terrorist attack was issued, the city authorities said.

A series of suicide bombings on London transport system on July 7 killed 56 people and injured about 700 others.     Enditem
