PARIS, Aug. 23 (Xinhuanet) -- French Interior
Minister Nicolas Sarkozy announced Tuesday that the French government is to
reinforce surveillance in order to fight terrorism and will introduce an
anti-terrorist bill within days.
On the occasion of the 61st anniversary of the WWII liberation of the city of Paris, Sarkozy announced that video
surveillance isto be increased in public places, and a database of tapped
telephone and computer communications will be set up.
"We are maintaining our operational services on
alert" with police, gendarmes and soldiers observing the "level red"
anti-terrorist procedures that have been in place since the July 7bombing
attacks in London, he told journalists.
"On this subject, as with others, such as border
control and handling immigration flows, cooperation with our European partnersis
real. Because we are all exposed," he said.
He also said that the Interior Ministry would take
tough actionagainst any Islamic radical who would make "inciting comments."
Other measures in the anti-terrorist law he proposes
would require cooperation with other EU states, he added. Enditem
