Urgent: Iraqi Shiites, Kurds agree on draft constitution

    BAGHDAD, Aug. 22 (Xinhuanet) -- Iraq's two major political blocs were ready to submit the draft constitution to the parliament by the midnight Monday deadline regardless of whether the minority Sunnis agree, a Shiite negotiator said.

    "The Shiite alliance and the Kurdish coalition have reached an agreement over the draft," Jawad al-Maliki, a Shiite constitution writer told reporters.

    "We are now meeting with the Sunni Arabs and the discussions areunder way," he said. Enditem
