Blast hits Israeli port
www.chinaview.cn 2005-08-19 17:06:48

JERUSALEM, Aug. 19 (Xinhuanet) -- A missile launched from Jordan's port of Aqaba seemed to be the cause of an explosion in the neighboring Israeli port city of Eilat Friday morning, the Ha'aretz daily reported on its website.

Israeli police said a taxi driver, who passed on the road just as the rocket fell, was slightly injured. The rocket did not hit his car, witnesses said.

The rocket created a small crater on the road, about 15 meters from the airport fence.

Earlier in the day, two blasts hit Aqaba, the pan-Arab al-Jazeera TV channel reported.

Jordanian Interior Minister Awni Yerfas confirmed that an explosion was heard at the port and an investigation was underway.

Two US military ships have been docked in the port over the past 10 days. But it was unknown that there was any link between the blast and the vessels. Enditem
