BEIJING, Aug.17 -- The traditional Chinese art of "feng shui" is enjoying a boom on the mainland.
One of China's leading universities, Nanjing University, and China Architectural Culture Center under the Ministry of Construction plan to form a training program about feng shui, the Nanjing-based newspaper Jiangnan Times reported Tuesday.
The Center will hold feng shui training courses from leading experts in the country, and it has launched a website to promote feng shui study.
The goal of feng shui is to achieve harmony, comfort, and balance, first in one's environment and then in one's life. Strangely while the traditional art is gaining popularity among foreigners, China has lagged behind.
China Architectural Culture Center held the first Summit on Architectural feng shui Culture in the Great Hall of the People in September 2004. Chen Kuiyuan, President of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, sent a message of congratulation on the seminar and offered his strong support.
The Center summoned another meeting on feng shui culture in June this year and academics agreed to establish a preparatory group to develop it.
This group is a specialist committee composed of experts on astronomy, geography, architecture, natural sciences, philosophy, and traditional Chinese medicine. Zheng Xinmiao, President of the Palace Museum and vice minister of culture is one of its top advisors.
