South Korea dominates archery at Izmir Universiade

    IZMIR, Turkey, August 16 (Xinhuanet) -- South Korea showed its dominance in archery at the 23rd World Universiade by winning halfof the eight golds on offer.

    The Asian archery powerhouse had a golden hat-trick in the teamevents on Monday as its women archers clinched the recurve and compound before its men archers added another gold in the compoundcompetition.

    The other title decided on Monday went to Ukraine, who triumphed in the men's recurve team competition to break the otherwise Korean monopoly.

    Lee Sung-jin completed the golden run of South Korea by beatingUkraine's Kateryna Palekha 115-109 in the women's recurve individual final Tuesday afternoon.

    Hong Sung-chil and Kim Hyo-sun had chances to bring South Koreamore golds, but they lost to Kuo Cheng-wei of Chinese Taipei and France's Amandine Bouillot in the men's recurve individual and women's compound individual respectively.

    The only event that saw no South Korean in the final was the men's compound individual, won by Italian Sergio Pagni. Florian Faucheur of France was pushed to the second place.

    South Korea collected a total of four golds, three silvers and one bronze in the Universiade archery competitions, which concluded on Tuesday. Enditem
