BISHKEK, Aug. 14 (Xinhuanet) -- Kurmanbek Bakiyev was sworn in Sunday as head of Kyrgyzstan after winning the July presidential election of the Central Asian country.

At the inauguration ceremony, Bakiyev took his oath on the country's constitution, saying that "taking on the functions of the Kyrgyz Republic's president, I swear before the people and the holy mountains to respect and defend the Kyrgyz Republic's constitution and law and guarantee the rights and liberties of allcitizens, and fulfill the president's functions, which were given me by popular trust, honorably and tirelessly."

The ceremony began early Sunday at the capital's central square with a military parade. Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Russian Federation Council's Speaker Sergei Mironov, US Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez and other 5,000 guests attended the ceremony.
