¡¡SHANGHAI, August 13 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese football club Shanghai Shenhua has asked the Scottish side Celtic to re-value defender DuWei, saying that the offer was below its expectation, local report said on Saturday.
Shenhua didnot reveal how much Celtic had offered despite the reported price of 800,000 pounds (1.45 million dollars), but the club admitted that the Scottish offer was not what it had expected.
"There is a gap between our expected price and their offer,"the club's boss Wu Jinan was quoted as saying by Shanghai Youth Daily.
Du Wei, the 23-year-old Chinese international, underwent a three-day trial at Celtic last week before heading back to China.
Celtic boss Gordon Strachan appeared to be impressed by Du's trial but was understood to want a second look before committing himself.
"He's been here just a couple of days and played in a close-door game," the manager had said.
"There's something there, but I can't commit myself after two days."
According to Shanghai Youth Daily, Celtic, though giving positive assessment on Du, thought he is still short of experience and need further improvement before settling into the first team.
But Shenhua would not see Du Wei spend time on the bench or playing in the reserve team of Celtic.
"We would prefer him to stay in Shenhua if he could only play in the reserve team there. We need to be responsible for Du's future,"said Wu.
"If they don't need Du badly, Du had better stay here, because Shenhua need him very much,"Wu added. Enditem |
